Angels Among Us

A POEM FOR THE GRIEVING... Do not stand at my grave and weep. I am not there, I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain, I am the gentle autumn's rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush, I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry, I am not there, I did not die... -- Mary Frye Coping with Pet Loss Grieving the Death of a Dog or Cat and Moving On Given the intense bond most of us share with our animals, it’s natural to feel devastated by feelings of grief and sadness when a pet dies. While some people may not understand the depth of feeling you had for your pet, you should never feel guilty or ashamed about grieving for an animal friend. Instead, use these healthy ways to cope with the loss, comfort yourself and others, and begin the pr

Hey, Where's My Coat?!!

How To Protect Your Pet (and Others) From The Cold This Winter In many areas, winter is a season of bitter cold and numbing wetness. Extra precautions during winter months will make sure your four-footed family members stay safe and warm. Help your pets remain happy and healthy during the colder months by following these simple guidelines: KEEP PETS INDOORS AND WARM Don't leave dogs or cats outdoors when the temperature drops. Regardless of the season, short-haired, very young or old dogs and all cats should never be left outside without supervision. Dogs and cats are safer indoors, except when taken out for exercise. During walks, short-haired dogs may feel more comfortable wearing a sweater. No matter what the temperature is, windchill can threaten a pet's life. Pets are sensitive to severe cold and are at risk for frostbite and hypothermia when they are outdoors during extreme cold snaps. Exposed skin on noses, ears and paw pads can quickly freeze and suf

One Simple Step To Raising A Kind Child

TEACH BY EXAMPLE               When you teach a child to be kind to animals, you help pave the way to a brighter future for all living beings. Animals benefit because the next generation has learned to treat them with respect and compassion, reducing instances of animal cruelty. Children benefit because learning about compassion and empathy early in life builds moral character, reduces violence, and builds a sense of empowerment and responsibility. And society as a whole benefits when its members are more caring towards each other and the animals who live among us. Unfortunately, not all children are taught to be kind to animals. This gap may lead them to tease animals or otherwise disregard their feelings; in the worst cases, it can lead to acts of animal cruelty. Animal cruelty is a heinous act punishable by law in every state, but in recent years, there has been increasing recognition of the link between animal cruelty and violence to other huma

A Special Way To Help An Angel This Christmas

Our help is urgently needed to save lives. Soi Dog’s clinic, in Thailand, is not able to cope with the growing number of dogs needing urgent medical treatment. A bigger and better hospital is urgently needed to save these dogs lives. To find out more, please click here.  https://www.chuffed.org/project/saving-thailands-street-dogs/?utm_campaign=website&utm_source=sendgrid.com&utm_medium=email Major funds funds are desperately needed. . Every day, Soi Dog is called upon to rescue and help dogs who need immediate and critical treatment to survive. These dogs may be victims of abuse such as beatings, being set on fire or victims of road accidents. Most tragically, they often rescue young mothers unable to care for their puppies and often puppies with no mother at all. Soi Dogs current clinic simply does not have the space or facilities for the number of dogs needing help. Dogs are dying as a result and your help is needed to save lives. Imagine being a c

From the Mouths of Babes

This is a letter that London wrote to the judge residing over the horrific case of Puppy Doe. It takes alot of courage and so much compassion for a child to stand up for what they believe in. It always starts with what a child is taught, and that can only be reinforced by our example. Always speak up when you see abuse. Never stay silent!

Compassion

Teaching Children Compassion Compassion....is not the same as sympathy, empathy or altruism, although each plays a part. The compassionate person feels the suffering of another and makes positive steps to alleviate that suffering.   During his talks, the Dalai Lama emphasizes how important it is for children to experience compassion from their parents or caregivers, from birth.    True compassion is being highly attuned to your child's needs and accepting them for the unique person they are.    From birth, compassion is something that can be taught and developed. And the earlier, the better! Model Compassion:   Show compassion towards your child and towards others.   From the start, every child needs to feel loved and secure to thrive. Their needs must be respected, if we expect them to respect others.   Security comes from knowing that they can count on their parents or caregivers. It comes from knowing that they will be listened to, taken seriously and protected.

A Weekend of Animal Fun

This past weekend, we had blast helping our animal friends! The Bucks County S.P.C.A www.bcspca.org had a booth at The Peace Fair at The Buckingham Friends School, and my daughter and I, along with two other volunteers, were there to answer questions and show off two of the shelter dogs-Ranger, a sweet and very gentle Pit Bull and Zoe a cute-as-a-button, Bichon Frise. The weather was gorgeous, and our dogs got alot of attention while strolling through the festival. They received many compliments and inquires! On Sunday, we headed out to Newtown Square, and our friend, Cynthia's, alpaca farm. We spent the afternoon helping her feed the alpaca and the goats. And my husband did some paint scraping to ready the farm for it's new barn paint. London absolutely loves all the animals and is totally engaged with them the entire time! I think her favorite is a chubby orange and white love bug named Rudy! London and Mr. Rudy

Children, Karma and Kindness

Wow, has it really been since last Christmas that I posted here? I feel an urgency today, to write about the vast number of animal abuse stories I have been reading on facebook! The amount and degree of cruelty, has definitely increased and worsened! I don't understand why this is happening. If anything, it should be DECREASING! The attention from all forms of social media and television, really should be having a positive effect on people.....so what's the problem? Do we not listen, or see, or set examples for our children? I know that we, who are fighting for animal rights, rescuing and teaching, are trying to set a proper example for our kids and for other adults. I mean, THAT is our intention. So why is it turning on the animals? Maybe, just maybe, all the attention is bringing forth more attention,,,,more NEGATIVE attention! This is strictly my own opinion, but I do believe that what we put out into the world (our energy), whether positive or negative, will brin
