Ever wonder why certain people almost always seem happy? Or why that lady at the Pet Smart checkout is always pleasant to EVERYONE?

They have a little secret. And it's quite easy to learn!

Having a happy and fulfilled life is as simple as looking for the KINDNESS in all situations and people. and then being kind yourself.
Looking at life with positive energy and thinking positive thoughts, is a practice that we can do all the time. The more we do it, the easier it gets!
Next time you catch yourself thinking the worst about a situation, turn it around and realize the good in it. Instead of complaining about the long lines at the food store, think how lucky you are to be able to buy the food you want.
Putting a POSITIVE spin on a situation or even a person, is a practice that will condition our brains and the ENERGY we put out into the world.
It's a win-win!

Here then, are 5 simple ways that you can spark KINDNESS and bring your special joy to others!

!.Neighborhood Watch:

Helping people in your neighborhood is a great way to inspire compassion in others and bring a sense of wellbeing to ourselves.
You know the senior couple down the street who have a really hard time walking their dog? Offer to take their pup for a walk. Getting older, is a major reason why dogs and cats, especially seniors, end up in a shelter. People become overwhelmed with their own medical situations and they cannot care for their pets anymore. It's very sad for the person AND for their pet.
Maybe they need a few things from the food store, or a ride to do a few errands.
Offer to shop for them, take their pet to the groomers or offer them a ride to the vet.
You could mow their lawn, weed their garden or shovel their driveway.

2. Bake Me A Cake

We love BAKING in our house! My daughter has helped me bake cakes, cookies and brownies (her specialty) since she was old enough to hold a spatula!

Baking a few treats for a local or school bake sale, treating your friends or neighbors to a few extra chocolate chip cookies you just baked or preparing an extra dinner plate for a home-bound family member, are just a few ways of spreading a little yumminess into the lives of others.

3. Step Up!

This one suggestion is inspired by the unending array of horrendous animal abuse seen on social media!
When you see something DO SOMETHING!
When you hear something SAY SOMETHING!
And when you witness something STEP IN AND STOP IT!

There are always a number of WAYS TO HELP, From stepping in yourself, to calling the police, to calling a rescue or your local shelter. Help is right there in your hand, and all it takes is one call on your cell phone to set that help in motion.

We tell our children not to bully others and to tell a teacher or adult if someone is being bullied. Some of our children have  hearts of gold, and will step in themselves and help a friend, or an animal in distress.

This is what we need to do when others are being hurt. And this is especially true for animals, who cannot speak for themselves!

4.Craft For Compassion

Teaching our children how to craft for kindness, is an awesome way for them to feel great about themselves and help others at the same time.

Make a few Pinecone Birdfeeders

Make a painting, drawing or get well card for a sick friend.

Design a few "Adopt Me" bandanas for your local shelter dogs looking for home. You and your kids can deliver them to a shelter or local rescue just in time for their next adoption event.

Learn a new craft that your child is interested in, and donate your creations to a nursing home, hospital or animal shelter.

5. Donate and Volunteer

Volunteering is one of the best ways I know of to help others, while making yourself feel great!
Animal shelters and rescues, nursing homes, and senior centers are just a few of the places that will welcome your help.
Call and ask them or check their website and ask them what they need. It only takes a few minutes and you will be bringing a smile to someone's face!

Donate your gently used blankets, sheets and towels, new dog and cat toys and pet food to animal shelters and rescues.

Homeless shelters will welcome clothes, shoes, blankets, sheets and other household items.
Call them and ask what they can use,
Maybe even offer to donate food and toiletries.

There are so many ways you can help others. Start here, and your will be on your way to a kinder, more compassionate existence.

When my daughter, London was about six, she said to me, "Mommy, when I help an animal, my heart is smiling."

I think that sums it up quite nicely!

Broken Hearts: An Anti-Bullying Campaign

Today, I want to talk about a topic that has been, well, talked about a lot-- Bullying! Bullying is never okay. In any form and to any living being. It is NEVER okay. We know this, as adults. But, do we really follow what our heart is telling us to do? Do we help others when they are being picked on or laughed at, or cyber bullied? Do we teach our children that we should never bully others, and to stand up to a bully, even if it means telling an adult? I had an experience with London being bullied at the start of the school year in her new school. This had never happed before, and let me tell you,  I was furious! London immediately told me when I picked her up from school that day, and my husband and I talked with her teacher that evening. And we talked about how it made her feel, and how wrong those two girls were for doing that to her. Her amazing teacher, to her credit, handled the situation rapidly and with the concern and anger of, not only a teacher,...

Frozen Hearts, Forgotten Lives: The Peril Of Pets In Winter

Keeping Your Pets Safe: Why They Belong Inside During Freezing Weather When temperatures drop, your pets rely on you to protect them from the cold. Leaving them outside in freezing conditions is not only dangerous for their health—it can also lead to serious legal consequences. Here’s why keeping your pets indoors during winter isn’t just a kindness; it’s a responsibility. 1. Freezing Temperatures Are Life-Threatening Dogs and cats are susceptible to frostbite, hypothermia, and other cold-related injuries. Contrary to popular belief, fur is not enough to keep them warm. Frostbite can damage their ears, tails, and paws, while hypothermia can cause their organs to shut down. Even hardy breeds like Huskies need proper shelter and care to survive extreme conditions. 2. IT'S THE LAW In many states and cities, it’s illegal to leave pets outside in extreme weather. If a neighbor sees your dog or cat left in the cold, they can—and often will—call animal control, the Humane Society, or ev...

Why Empathy for Animals Builds a Kinder World: A Parent’s Guide to Teaching Compassion

Why Empathy for Animals Builds a Kinder World: A Parent’s Guide to Teaching Compassion Empathy is a cornerstone of a kinder, more understanding world. As parents, one of the greatest gifts we can give our children is the ability to see and respect the emotions of others. While teaching empathy can sometimes feel abstract, animals provide a natural, relatable way to help children develop this vital skill. From the loyal wag of a dog’s tail to the cautious flutter of a bird’s wings, animals communicate feelings in ways even the youngest children can understand. By fostering empathy for animals, we open the door for our children to expand their compassion to people and the world around them. In this post, we’ll explore why empathy for animals matters, how it translates to kindness in broader contexts, and simple, parent-friendly activities to nurture this value at home. Why Empathy for Animals Matters Children often form strong, emotional bonds with animals, whether it’s the family ...
