"Why Should People Have Pets?" By London

This week, instead of a video, we are doing a blog post written by London!  This is an example of
the topics my daughter writes about at school, and why I am so proud of her!

                                        WHY SHOULD PEOPLE HAVE PETS

                                                           BY: LONDON

Have you ever wanted to adopt a pet from a shelter or buy one? Well I think everyone should have a pet. You should adopt a pet from a shelter or buy one because they can make you have a happier attitude, make you healthier and even save your life.

First of all, a pet can make you have a happier attitude. Since pets can be so fun to play with, when you do play with them they might make you feel happier, and better. So if you were throwing around a tennis ball in your yard with your dog, your dog and yourself might feel happier. Also, a pet can relieve stress. Just by stroking a dog or cat, or simply watching a fish swim around in it's tank can relieve stress. When you play around with your pet, you also relieve stress. You just forget what is bothering you and play with your pet.

Next, a pet can make you healthier. So if you do have a pet your heart may be healthier than other people who don't have one. You can help you muscles by walking, running or jogging with your dog. Even cats can help too! They can cut your heart attack risk by one-third! Pet owners sometimes, after they have surgery have recovered faster than people who don't own pets.

Lastly, a pet can save your life. There a two types of dogs, the Bernese mountain dog and the Greater Swiss mountain dog, who save the lives of people up in the mountains who are stuck underneath avalanches. The dogs sniff out the scent of the people trapped under the snow and ice who could not escape an avalanche. When the dog does find someone trapped, the dog will bark and dig until the person following them shovels the person out with the dogs help. Also, sometimes a pet can sense when you are about to get hurt or something bad will happen. So if you were about to have a heart attack, the animal would try to tell you in the best way they could. Either by barking or meowing, a pet would try to tell you that you are about to get hurt. If you leave the oven on, and you were sleeping, the dog or cat would try to wake you up and tell you that something is happening. That's how loyal a pet can be.

Now do you know why you should have a pet? They can give you a happier attitude, make you healthier and even save your life. So after reading I hope you will adopt a pet.

Broken Hearts: An Anti-Bullying Campaign

Today, I want to talk about a topic that has been, well, talked about a lot-- Bullying! Bullying is never okay. In any form and to any living being. It is NEVER okay. We know this, as adults. But, do we really follow what our heart is telling us to do? Do we help others when they are being picked on or laughed at, or cyber bullied? Do we teach our children that we should never bully others, and to stand up to a bully, even if it means telling an adult? I had an experience with London being bullied at the start of the school year in her new school. This had never happed before, and let me tell you,  I was furious! London immediately told me when I picked her up from school that day, and my husband and I talked with her teacher that evening. And we talked about how it made her feel, and how wrong those two girls were for doing that to her. Her amazing teacher, to her credit, handled the situation rapidly and with the concern and anger of, not only a teacher,...

Knowing We Must Say Goodbye

Wishing you were somehow here again Knowing we must say goodbye Try to forgive, teach me to live Give me the strength to try   -From The Phantom of the Opera    A few short weeks ago, my best friend had to say goodbye to her precious cat of twenty one years.    As you can image, it was one of the hardest things she has ever had to do.  It was also one of the kindest gifts she could have given to her little Simba.   We all know what a difficult and incredibly sad decision this is to make. We question that decision long after our little angel is at rest. We talk to our friends and loves ones about him or her, and if we are lucky, we have that one person who totally gets how we are feeling, and tries to ease our pain by letting us reminisce and remember. If we're very lucky, we have that one friend. Here are a few suggestions that might help you when confronted with a friend who needs you to just listen, and be a tr...
