Kindness Feels Good. 5 Simple Ways You Can Give Back

It's DAY OF GIVING !  So in honor of helping others and in our case, helping animals in need, here are some easy ways to help.                                                             London and Sugar Plum                                         Ever wonder why certain people almost always seem happy? Or why that lady at the Pet Smart checkout is always pleasant to EVERYONE? They have a little secret. And it's quite easy to learn! Having a happy and fulfilled life is as simple as looking for the KINDNESS in all situations and people. and then being kind yourself. Looking at life with positive energy and thinking positive thoughts, is a practice that we can do all the time. The more we do it, the easier it gets!  Next time you catch yourself thinking the worst about a situation, turn it around and realize the good in it. Instead of complaining about the long lines at the food store, think how lucky you are to be able to buy the food you want. Putting a POSITIVE

Smiling On The Outside

Are you an animal activist? Do you love and defend animals at all costs? Do you rescue, care for and educate others about animals in need? If yes, then you must be smiling on the outside, while your heart is breaking on the inside. Many people I know are doing this right now, and it's killing them! Almost four years ago, I read an incredibly sad post on Facebook. It was about a women, who I did not know. She had taken her own life that day. The whole reason it grabbed my attention was of course, why was she so unhappy that she did this? What could have been going on, that would make her want to end her life? I was compelled by this poor soul, and felt that her life did mean something, as everyone's life does. When I read through the comments, what I immediately noticed, was that she had been an animal activist. She had tried and had succeeded at helping many animals, at the expense of her own life. The comments revealed that when she no longer had the strength to he

Broken Hearts: An Anti-Bullying Campaign

Today, I want to talk about a topic that has been, well, talked about a lot-- Bullying! Bullying is never okay. In any form and to any living being. It is NEVER okay. We know this, as adults. But, do we really follow what our heart is telling us to do? Do we help others when they are being picked on or laughed at, or cyber bullied? Do we teach our children that we should never bully others, and to stand up to a bully, even if it means telling an adult? I had an experience with London being bullied at the start of the school year in her new school. This had never happed before, and let me tell you,  I was furious! London immediately told me when I picked her up from school that day, and my husband and I talked with her teacher that evening. And we talked about how it made her feel, and how wrong those two girls were for doing that to her. Her amazing teacher, to her credit, handled the situation rapidly and with the concern and anger of, not only a teacher, but a mother.

Women Changing The World For Animals

London and I are introducing a new series called, Women Changing The World For Animals . Our very first interview is with a lovely lady who is truly changing the world for our animals!  Meet Denise Fleck! "After years in the Entertainment Industry, I went TO THE DOGS! Training, practicing and learning some more led me to developing my Pet First-Aid & CPR, Pet Disaster Preparedness and Senior Pet Care Classes along with a 20 week Animal Care Class for high school juniors and seniors. For 16 years, my motto has been "Helping People to Help Their Pets," and I feel I have...having taught more than 10,000 pet lovers animal life-saving skills in person and millions more on national television segments. " Denise continues her very important work of teaching animal first aide and helping us help our pets in an emergency, before they go to the vet. Saving animals is just one of the many beautiful qualities of this interesting lady. Here then,  is our very fi

Happy "Gotcha Day"!

This month's topic was chosen by London. It has always been extremely important to her to celebrate her pet's birthdays.      In the world of rescue, we often don't know our pets exact date of birth. So we celebrate what has come to be known as their "Gotcha Day", the day that we adopted them and brought them home!      Having a celebration for your pet, no matter how small or how elaborate, is a wonderful way for your children to appreciate all the joy and love, your pets bring to your family. Having them involved in the planning often teaches them that others are deserving of special gifts and treatment, just as they are.      There are many local bakeries that cater just to pets, and can create a cake or cupcakes to your pet's liking. Some of these goodies can even be eaten by you! And, local grocery stores have isles of pet friendly treats. Frozen ice cream for

COMPASSION SCHOOL

HELP! I'M LOST.                                                       Losing a family pet can be one of the most devastating circumstances we can experience. We, personally, have only experienced it once, when our precious little Chihuahua. Chi Chi, ran out the back door one Sunday morning. There was a very happy ending though. A concerned neighbor's pet sitter found  Chi Chi and took him home with her AND to church with her! This wonderful lady even had her priest bless our tiny pup!    Three hours later, Chi Chi was returned to us and we were forever grateful to our neighbor and her pet sitter. Since then, we have bonded over our love of dogs and spend lots of time with them and THEIR new puppy, Henry! London and Henry are the best of friends! London and I want to share a few helpful and simple tips to keep your pets safe, and what to do if your dog or
