Compassion School : First in a series just for kids!

What Does Respect For Animals Mean?

Some parents tell their children, "You must have respect for others."

That should include animals, as well.

It means to give others some space, and keep a distance if they don't want to be disturbed, approached or talked to.  It means treating others kindly and with dignity.

The same is true with animals and with our pets. Some animals don't want to be picked up or cuddled. While others, like dogs and cats, usually appreciate a lot of attention, and a soft, kind voice.
Wild animals just want to be left alone, and should never be approached or handled.

And...there is absolutely no animal on earth, who wants to be locked in a cage for his entire life.
If you have a small pet at home: a guinea pig, hamster or bird, you must give them ample space and exercise, make their life enjoyable and care for them for the rest of their lives. They are now, never able to live on their own.

They depend on you for their every need. Respect them and treat them well.

Just as you depend on your parents for your well-being, your food, clothing, home and schooling. Pets depend on us for everything!

Being kind to animals and showing them respect, is for everyone. It is not just for girls, or moms, grandparents or "animal people".  Real humans, boys, girls, men and women, are kind to animals and anyone weaker then themselves.

Bullies are mean to others, including animals. Even yelling at an animal is not okay, and is a form of bullying and animal abuse.

So, show respect for another person, an animal or pet, and even for yourself, by saying no, or telling a parent if you see an animal in distress, or one who is being hurt.

This is a list of a few simple things you can do to show respect for animals, and in return you will feel really good about yourself!

JUST SAY YES! Tell others how you feel about animals. Don't keep your love for animals a secret.
Your friends will admire and look up to you for speaking up, and showing what a kind person you are!

GET INVOLVED: Join or start a group that helps animals. Be a leader among your friends, and let them know how they can also help animals. It will make them feel special and empowered to know that they can make a difference in an animal's life.

* HELP OUT AT A RESCUE EVENT: (You can check at veterinary hospitals in your area, or online, to find a rescue close to you.)

*MAKE A STATEMENT: Draw, paint or create a picture or poster for a shelter, or animal rescue. Ask for a small donation for each picture, and donate that money to the rescue of your choice. You can even take your donation to a shelter and personally donate it to the dog or cat of your choice. This is a great way to actually visit animals in need.
You can also make "Adopt Me" bandanas, collars and leashes.

Be creative and brainstorm with your friends about ways you can use your love of animals, to help pets in shelters and those in rescue also looking for forever homes..

THAT'S how to show respect for animals.

Remember, respect sees another as worthy of our time.

Let me hear your ideas on how to help homeless pets, and how YOU show respect for animals!

Broken Hearts: An Anti-Bullying Campaign

Today, I want to talk about a topic that has been, well, talked about a lot-- Bullying! Bullying is never okay. In any form and to any living being. It is NEVER okay. We know this, as adults. But, do we really follow what our heart is telling us to do? Do we help others when they are being picked on or laughed at, or cyber bullied? Do we teach our children that we should never bully others, and to stand up to a bully, even if it means telling an adult? I had an experience with London being bullied at the start of the school year in her new school. This had never happed before, and let me tell you,  I was furious! London immediately told me when I picked her up from school that day, and my husband and I talked with her teacher that evening. And we talked about how it made her feel, and how wrong those two girls were for doing that to her. Her amazing teacher, to her credit, handled the situation rapidly and with the concern and anger of, not only a teacher, but a mother.

Paradisiac Beauty

Paradisiac Beauty:  A place of ideal beauty or loveliness, relating to or befitting Paradise.    I want to introduce you to a lovely women named Valerie.     Valerie has a blog called Paradisic Beauty, where she writes about the plight of abused animals all over the world. (www.paradisicbeauty.wordpress.com)    Val shows us through her written word, how we can begin to change our way of thinking about animal abuse. She even shows us products and foods that are organic and cruelty free.    Her topics are diverse. From animal testing in labs, to beautiful wolves being caught and dying in traps, to barbaric "sports" like horse wrangling. And here at home, she writes about the daily abuse that numerous pets endure. She writes about the ones that no one sees.....she is their voice! All of these horrific things and many others, go on each and every day, all over the world. And in EACH instance, the animals die a slow and horribly painful death. Val shows us real w
