Do Someting Great! 5 Ways You Can Help Animals This Weekend.

In a world that's gone a little crazy lately, it's really good to know this one fact: The adoptions of pets has soared during this pandemic! That's great news! Adoptions soar during pandemic

Here are five ways that you can help animals locally or globally. Include your kids in these activities and they will learn what it feels like to do something truly selfless. Helping an animal in need, no matter how small, is one sure way to bring another living being some happiness. Because, after all, that is what they bring to us....pure, innocent, uncomplicated, love.

People continue to work from home, and spend more time hanging out with family. If anything positive has come out of this bewildering time, it is how important family and friends really are. And that certainly includes our pets!

Number 1: ADOPT OR FOSTER A PET. It' not as scary as it may sound (to some). And the rewards are never ending. The unconditional love you receive from your pet, is way beyond words, AND it is for their lifetime! Start by contacting your local shelter, or a local rescue. There are so many dogs and cats that need loving forever homes and families. Petfinder Try Here,  is also a great way to find that wonderful little snuggle bug for your family. Involve your children in the entire process and be sure to let them know, they will be helping to raise their new family member. Model positivity and kindness towards your new pet, and they will follow your lead.

Number 2:VOLUNTEER AT YOUR LOCAL ANIMAL SHELTER

Doing this really helps immensely in the lives of homeless animals. It is also a way to connect with animals, your community and your children. Contact your local shelter to find out how to volunteer and how to volunteer with your kids. (I started volunteering with my daughter when she was only eight years old. At the time, she was their youngest volunteer! We both loved it.) How to volunteer

Number 3: COLLECT SUPPLIES TO DONATE

This is a simple and easy way to get your kids involved! Go through your home and find things you no longer use or need, like: towels. sheets, blankets and comforters. Wash them up and put in plastic bags.

You can also buy dog, cat, rabbit, guinea pig, bird food, new pet toys, pet food and water bowls, water bottles, and anything from your shelter's list of needs.15 things your animal shelter really needs

Number 4:LEND A HAND PHOTOGRAPHING ADOPTABLE ANIMALS

Are you a photographer? Or just really great with a camera? Then why not ask your local shelter or rescue if you can take some great pictures for them. With all they have to do, it's a great help to have someone who can take gorgeous pictures of their pets. These beautiful photos help to show the animals personality and that helps them find their forever home much faster. Take your kids along to help you. Sometimes the presence of a child, helps ease the pet's anxiety and stress level. Go ahead...show your talent for a very good cause! How to photograph pets

Number 5: BECOME A FAN ON SOCIAL MEDIA

Of all five of these suggestions, this one is the easiest. Start following and engaging with animal rescues, the Humane Society and pet lovers across the board. Try Facebook, Instagram and YouTube. Comment and like what these rescues do, and give them a thumbs-up and lots of positivity! They are on the front lines of animal rescue, and what they witness on a daily basis is heartbreaking and traumatic, to say the least. They need our prayers and positivity. If you can donate to help, please do. This is an excellent way, too, to find a rescued animal in great need of a forever family. Consider adopting a senior or handicapped pet. As you can imagine, they are usually the last to be adopted.Hope For Paws Rescue

Whatever you decide to do, be kind and compassionate in your decision. Remember that your children are watching, and will model your positive behavior towards animals.

Broken Hearts: An Anti-Bullying Campaign

Today, I want to talk about a topic that has been, well, talked about a lot-- Bullying! Bullying is never okay. In any form and to any living being. It is NEVER okay. We know this, as adults. But, do we really follow what our heart is telling us to do? Do we help others when they are being picked on or laughed at, or cyber bullied? Do we teach our children that we should never bully others, and to stand up to a bully, even if it means telling an adult? I had an experience with London being bullied at the start of the school year in her new school. This had never happed before, and let me tell you,  I was furious! London immediately told me when I picked her up from school that day, and my husband and I talked with her teacher that evening. And we talked about how it made her feel, and how wrong those two girls were for doing that to her. Her amazing teacher, to her credit, handled the situation rapidly and with the concern and anger of, not only a teacher, but a mother.
